Official poverty rate up from 11.7 percent in 2001 to 12.1 percent in 2002 for the United States.
Number of people in poverty increased 1.7 million to 34.6 million in the United States.
Real median household money income fell 1.1 percent ($500) between 2001 and 2002 to $42,400 for the United States.

Wisconsin:

“The average household income decreased from $46,575 in 2000-2001 to $45,985 in 2001-2002, a change of 1.3 percent.” Wisconsin’s average household income in 2001-2002 was still higher than in Illinois and Iowa, but less than in Minnesota.
